Software Carpentry Workshop 2023

In this four-day bootcamp, we will cover three core topics to kickstart your computing skills: the Unix shell, version control with Git, and Programming with Python.

As we cover these topics, you will learn how to:

• use the shell to do more in less time
• automate your tasks and pipelines
• write structured programs
• use Git to manage and share information
• how (and how much) to test programs

This four-day workshop will be delivered in-person at Earlham Institute. 

Who is this training for?

Researchers in the life science and computational science disciplines. We particularly encourage PhD students and postdoctoral scientists to attend, but the course is open to everyone, at any stage of their career. 

The course is aimed at complete beginners; trainees are expected to have very little or no prior knowledge of programming before attending. However, we will cover a lot of material and the training is quite fast paced, so be prepared to fully immerse yourself in the world of programming!

Registration is currently reserved for certain groups. If you are interested in attending, please email training@earlham.ac.uk with a short expression of interest, explaining why you would like to attend the course.

If places are available you will be provided with a password to complete the form. Please note that we expect this training to be highly popular, and for places to fill up before the registration deadline, so if you are interested please do express your interest as soon as possible.
