Yash is a PhD CASE student on the Norwich Research Park Doctoral Training Partnership (NRPDTP). His CASE partner is Microbiotica Ltd. He is based in the Macaulay lab where he uses a range of cutting-edge single-cell technologies, including flow cytometry and droplet-based microfluidics, to unravel the genomic and functional complexities of different microbiomes, including the human gut.

Yash completed a BSc (Hons.) in Biochemistry at the University of Bath in 2018, which included a year in industry at Oxford Gene Technology. Since then, he worked as a laboratory technician and research associate at Surrey research park and Microbiotica, respectively. At Microbiotica, he became fascinated with the human microbiome and was able to enhance his wet-labs skills in bacterial culturing, genomic DNA extraction including high-molecular weight bacterial DNA, and both short- and long-read sequencing of bacterial genomes and metagenomes.

Before starting his PhD, he completed an MSc in Microbiome in Health and Disease at King's College London. The course enabled him to learn about the human microbiome in greater detail and exposed him to bioinformatics, where he assembled his own computational pipeline to analyse complex microbial data related to the TwinsUK study.
