Spatial Transcriptomics in Plants Workshop

This workshop provides an overview of the Vizgen MERSCOPE spatial transcriptomics platform for plant science researchers in the preliminary stages of planning a spatial transcriptomics project in plant tissue. This course will be delivered in person at the Earlham Institute (Norwich, UK).  

The programme will consist of a mixture of conceptual and methodological lectures and hands-on sessions, including best practice and tips as learned first-hand by Earlham Institute’s faculty. 

Due to space and equipment restrictions (fume cupboard access), we will be offering up to 5 spaces with full hands-on laboratory sessions, with up to a further 5 additional spaces for delegates to observe the laboratory sessions.

This two-day workshop will walk plant scientists through the Vizgen MERSCOPE platform for use in plant tissue, from sample preparation to data visualisation. Participants will also hear case studies from users of the Vizgen platform.  

Participants will gain first-hand experience by learning how to utilise the Vizgen spatial transcriptomics platform with the guidance of the faculty, troubleshoot small problems, and review the results.  

There will be plenty of opportunities to ask questions and hold discussions with other participants and the course trainers.

What will I learn?

Participants will learn how the Vizgen MERSCOPE spatial transcriptomics platform works, with a focus on its application in plant tissues. Specifically, you will  

• Learn how to design effective gene panels  
• Be trained in plant tissue sample preparation  
• Have hands on experience utilising specialised software to visualise gene profiles across plant tissue
• Understand how to interpret data generated by the MERSCOPE platform

Course pre-requisities

This workshop is for plant scientists who are new to spatial transcriptomics and in the planning stage of a spatial transcriptomics project. You should be comfortable with basic molecular biology techniques and equipment.
